Ikat Siho Prayer Flag
Prayer flags are traditional temple offerings and can be seen gracing the entrance of many of Luang Prabang’s wats or temples. The reeds, which are woven directly into the fabric, signify steps to heaven. Weft ikat is a traditional Lao technique, requiring fibres to be tied and dyed before weaving. The ‘siho’ is an mythical animal with the body of a lion and the head of an elephant. It signifies power and strength.
