Values-oriented, creative, strong, empowering, innovative — these are just some of the words that we aim to be here at Ock Pop Tok.
After 15 years, we wanted to re-energize our mission and values. And with that, a new look. So here it is! What do you think?
But why the new look? To help fulfill our mission — elevating the profile of Lao textiles and artisans throughout the world — our goal is to share the amazing stories of the people and products here in Laos. If you know more about the importance behind these products, we hope that you’ll be able to share with your friends as well.
We wanted to work toward more consistently and clearly providing you as much details and information we could with every person and piece. (Like Mrs. Liew, for example.) This not only provides more transparency in what we do and awareness for this small Southeast Asian nation, but also a hope that you can grow to love the country — and it’s amazing textiles and people — as much as we do.
Our new logo takes its inspiration from handwoven pieces themselves. Stitch by stitch. Thread by thread. The colours are ones used throughout the beautiful pieces that have graced temples and homes for centuries. We looked at the landscape, architecture and natural beauty here in Luang Prabang.
Ock Pop Tok was founded on a shared love of textiles and the desire for Lao women to be recognized for their amazing ability. We built the Living Crafts Centre so that visitors could see their skill and meet weavers first hand. The Village Weaver Project was created to help facilitate more income to rural villages, and in turn, help you “Discover Laos through textiles” — whether this was your first or fiftieth trip to Laos.
Our small social enterprise has come a long way in its more than 15 years…and we can’t wait to see where the next 15 years takes us.
Going forward, you’ll see even more stories, and storytelling, across our platforms — and if you’re moved to, we hope that you’ll share. Will you join us in this mission?
